I have so many fond memories of the wonderful soul that was known to me as RAM. Yes, those are his initials but the double entendre fits pretty well for a man so strong, noble and humble with such a powerful spirit. I wish I could be there to share them in person and am sending my love and support in any way I can.
I'm technically not one of his sons but for much of my adolescent and college years you would not have know that as I was closer than could be with his son Nicholas and a fixture in his household along with the rest of our very close group of friends. You were always welcome there, even if you woke him up in the middle of the night and he would come down the stairs in his tighty whiteys to reprimand you, somewhat akin to a bear awoken from his den. You were always invited to share a meal. If the family was doing something fun you were always invited along...or better yet sometimes the "adults" would be off doing their thing and we'd get to "watch the house" and have some fun of our own. I had no problem doing chores around the house or helping with yard work, although he may not have liked what I did to one of his bushes once with my car, because he was the type of man who's respect you WANTED to earn. The kind of man he was was inspirational, it made you want to be more like him and you wanted him to see that in you. As with any respect worth having, his was not the easiest to earn especially during those earlier years where we were still learning a lot about ourselves, about life and becoming the men that we are today. But boy was the payoff sweet. I fondly remember those years where we had finally made it, we were no longer just kids passing through his house but men welcomed into his adult life. I'll never forget the first time being invited into his special room, we called it the Pimp Room, for a cocktail and cigars with him and the other fellas. He had softened up over the years and we had matured to meet nicely in the middle. Calling him RAM to his face and sharing jokes with him, he'd crack a smile and you'd see that sparkle in his eye. I'd like to think that sparkle was that bit of him instilled in me reflecting back at myself.
While I am sad to see him go and know he will be missed by many I am comforted in the fact that I am lucky enough to still be blessed with the friendship of Nicholas and his other sons, men who carry with them the essence of RAM. Men who I'm sure RAM couldn't be prouder of and that brings a smile to my face.
Safe travels into the hereafter RAM and please know the meaningful impact you've had on me just by being who you were.
PEACE

To Nick and the family,
I am so sorry for your loss. While I did not know your Dad, I know you, and it takes a great man to raise such a great son, so I know he must of been an amazing man. I wish you and your family all the best during these tough times. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
