Obituary of Lucille Clarke

Lucille A, Clarke, 87, a resident of Little Falls Village in Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Lucille was born in Staten Island, NY to Joseph and Ella Pesce. Raised in Staten Island, Virgina and Mineola, NY, the family maintained a summer home in Scotts Beach, NY. After World War II, Lucille married Arthur S. Clarke, a returning war veteran, and together they made their home in Douglaston, NY and eventually Old Brookville, NY where she resided for over 40 years. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Wilmington, DE, where she resided for the past seven years. A devoted and loving wife and mother of five, Lucille was blessed with an engaging personality and a love for life. She had many friends and admirers. An avid bowler, she played in women’s and senior leagues. She was also active in her local senior center and thoroughly enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. For a number of years, Lucille was employed as a sales associate at B. Altman & Co. and Lord & Taylor, both located in Manhasset, NY. During World War II, she was employed by the Department of the Navy in Washington DC. Lucille is survived by her two daughters and three sons, Ms. Kathleen Clarke of New York, NY, Ms. Wendy Maples of Tarrytown, NY, Mr. John Clarke and his wife Karen of Decatur, GA, Mr. Arthur Clarke and his wife Sue of Morristown, NJ, and Mr. Thomas Clarke and his wife Beth of Wilmington, DE, four grandchildren, Erin Sak and her husband Jonathan, Chris, Sydney and Shelby Clarke, and a brother, Mr. Joseph A. Pesce and his wife Faith, of Smithtown, NY. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Cadia Rehabilitation Center, the staff of Christiana Hospital, and Mary Failla for the loving care given to Lucille. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas in Glen Cove, NY on Monday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 22nd at 11:30 am at the Church of St. Hyacinth, 319 Cedar Swamp Road, Glen Head, NY. Interment will follow the mass at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, NY.
