Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Helen Gaglione died peacefully at home, June 9, 2011 after a long struggle with emphysema. She is survived by her husband Bob, three children, five grandchildren, and brother, Raymond.
Janet was born January 3, 1932 in Nassau, NY to Charles and Mae Bruntrager. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy, and earned her RN degree from Mary Immaculate hospital in Queens. She had a rewarding career as a nurse in various area hospitals and later for the NY public school system. Janet married Bob Gaglione on June 19, 1953 in Camp Gordon, Georgia. They passed their early years in Flushing Queens and later moved to the waterfront in Bayville where they have lived for the past 28 years. They have three children, Bob Jr., Carole and Ken, and five grandchildren, Bob III, Gregory, Paul, Charles and Jenna.
Janet was a much loved and devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and husband. She treasured her friends and cared deeply for them and would frequently recount favorite stories of time spent with them. She was also very devoted to her faith and found great comfort in the Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, seeing new places, shopping for bargains, and spending time on the water fishing, or simply enjoying the view. She loved the sunshine and the fresh air. But perhaps more than anything, she cherished those times when the entire family gathered together - this gave her the greatest joy.
There will be funeral mass for Janet at St. Gertrudes Church in Bayville NY at 11:00 am Monday, June 13 followed by burial services at Mount Saint Mary cemetery in Flushing, Queens. Arrangements are being coordinated by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home of Glen Cove, 516-676-1180. In lieu of Flower donations can be made to St Judes Childrens Hospital and Research Center.
