It's hard to understand how saddened one can be by the passing of someone you haven't seen in twenty-five plus years. I guess you always think "there's time", time to reconnect, time to reminisce... until all of a sudden, there isn't. Angelo was a big part of my life growing up in Brooklyn in the 1980's and 1990's - he and Brenda, Frank and I did everything together. Frank and Angelo would often hang around the studio waiting for us to finish class, whether we were taking our own classes or teaching. And they were a staple any time we went to competition. I'll never forget driving to Cherry Hill in my uncle's van with my prop -- that damn box -- and Angelo and Brenda sitting on it the whole ride down. He and I were both in finance and he gave me a lot of good advice as I was preparing for job interviews. He had a sharp brain and wit; he and I would always collaborate on the New York magazine crossword puzzle. He was one-of-a-kind and although it had been forever, I'll miss knowing that he's in the world.
Love and condolences to Brenda and the kids.

I didn't think the year 2020 could get worse. But it has. My good friend and League stalwart Angelo Vasiento passed away Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack. He was just shy of 55 years old. As is the case with many of you, Angie and I go way back. I don't have the exact year, but it was sometime in the mid-80's when he began playing fantasy baseball with us. Football soon followed and he played in every league I ran.
News of his passing got me thinking back to the old days when we did all of our fantasy football business by phone. I got to know many of my team owners well over those early years but none better than Angelo. For many years we would get together in NYC for dinner and drinks and often a ball game. Born and raised in Brooklyn he was the quintessential Italian New Yorker, loud and opinionated with a joke for every occasion. He was a lot of fun to be around.
But as is often the case, life goes up and down and Angelo had more downs then he deserved. The September 11 attacks which cost the lives of so many members of his Wall St community, the crash of 2008 which wiped out a lucrative career, and finally health issue after health issue. As you would expect, these things took their toll. I only saw Angelo once or twice in the last 10 years or so, but we made sure to talk frequently. While his taste for the social life may have ebbed a bit, his passion for fantasy football may have actually increased. And we know how bright that passion burned. When it came to fantasy football Angelo was a risk-taker like few I've competed with in my 35+ years of playing. Blockbuster deals involving the biggest names in the game were routine for him. He was a fearless trader. Angelo was a foundational member of fantasy leagues that have stayed together for decades. And I know that he had begun partnering with his son Charlie in fantasy sports and was really enjoying that connection.
Perhaps the saddest aspect of his passing is that he had recently begun to write a new chapter down here in Florida with a new career. Things were going great. Business was booming and of course he was working his butt off. He loved Ft Lauderdale. Like all of us he was really hopeful that there will be football this year and eager to see how his teams would do..
Angelo leaves behind wife Brenda, son Charlie and daughter Felicia, both in their twenties. I will miss him terribly.

I am truly sorry I was unable to attend the memorial for a man I considered a legend in my eyes. Angie always took extremely great care of me professional but as a personal friend as well. I wish I was able to be there personally to meet his family and see all of our mutual friends and celebrate in the life and memories of a great man, but living in Stamford, CT and not owning a car, made the journey to Long Island very difficult during these trying times. I want to say how much respect and love I have you Angie, and i'll see you on the other side my friend..my thought and prayers are with all of those you leave behind, and I will always cherish the memories!!

Dear Charles and Felicia,
Am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He's a great old friend and colleague for many years at Cowen and Co. I can't tell you many laughs we had, mostly at each other's expense. I was lucky enough to have had a nice conversation with him a few weeks ago. I am grateful for that. Please know that i have you all in my thoughts and will always keep Angelo's memory alive. My deepest condolences. Tom Evans

My first job on Wall Street was working at Cowen’s Intermediate Desk with Angelo, Tom & the other guys. It was an absolute joy coming to work just to hear the hilarious banter between “The Roman” (Angelo), Wolfie, McGoo and Group (Tom). At times it would get very intense, but Angelo was always a standup person and was always willing to share his knowledge of the industry with me. I really appreciated him for that. My deepest condolences to the family.
