Obituary of Lilias Knott Bostwick
Lilias Knott Bostwick of Delray Beach, Florida died peacefully at home on July 1, 2022 at the age of 87. Lili was born on September 19, 1934 in New York City to James Knott and Lilias Kent Knott. She grew up in New York City and Jericho, Long Island, attended The Chapin School, and in 1952 graduated from Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia. She married George H. “Pete” Bostwick Jr. in 1955 and settled in Locust Valley, New York, where they raised their four children.
Lili owned the White Pepper, a gift shop in Locust Valley which gave her great enjoyment. She also volunteered at Glen Cove Hospital. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was always engaged with family and close friends. She was a good tennis player and golfer, dedicated bridge player, avid reader, and she loved her daily walks.
Lili lived with cancer for over 25 years and found a calling helping others who coped with the same illness. She was loyal to her many wonderful friends, who were by her side as she fought courageously until the very end. Lili will be remembered for being direct, honest, and authentic. Most of all, she had a great love for family. She was devoted to her husband throughout all 66 years of their marriage, and spent countless hours looking after her 11 grandchildren, to whom she was known as Gigi. She spoiled them whenever possible and kept them at the center of many family vacations.
Lili is survived by her husband and four children, Peter Bostwick III (Julie), Catherine Wilson (Harrison), Lilias Noesen (John), and Janet Bostwick, as well as her 11 grandchildren: Laura (Carl), Kathryn (Thad), and Lucy Bostwick; Peter, Jamie, David (Laura), and Caroline Wilson; and Jennifer (fiancé Alex), Lili, Maisie, and Eliza Noesen. She is survived by her sisters, Cathy Welch, Susie Childs, and Nora Cushing, and was predeceased by her brother, David Knott.
