I've known Vito Grimaldi since I was a kid and my father worked from him. Eventually, when I was old enough, I worked for him. I didn't make a lot of money working at Grimaldi's Home of Bread, but if I knew then what I know now I would've worked for free. I didn't know it at the time, but I learned lessons that I'd carry with me for the rest of my life. Lessons in kindness, generosity, integrity, respect and honesty. Everytime I walked into the office and Mr. Grimaldi was there playing solitaire, he'd ask "how's your father?" And I'd say "he's doing ok, Mr. Grimaldi thanks for asking". He'd say "give him my regards". The next thing he'd say is "how are you, do you need anything?". I knew he meant it because there were times I did need help and he never told me no. I took it for granted then, but in hindsight I realize that kindness and generosity is gone from this world and I'll be eternally grateful for the help he always gave without a second thought. Whenever he walked into the bakery, he'd take the time to converse with employees and greet them with respect regardless of what their pay level was or what job they did. I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the Grimaldi family. I regret not being able to say these things to Mr. Grimaldi when I had the chance, but I want to share the impact he had on my life and the values I'll try to pass on to future generations.
