Rich,
We just heard that you had passed away. Our hearts are filled with sadness. We were with you for several years and always looked forward to our annual trip to your office. We will always remember our lengthy chats and how much you loved your girls. Rest in peace, we will miss you.

So many of our fondest memories include Richard at family gatherings and vacations. We will remember him as a kind and caring father and uncle. We recall how he loved to record all his daughters' activities when they were young. When our boys were pre-teens, he gave them a few of his childhood baseball cards and took them to a Mets game where our younger son, Dustin, caught two foul balls. Richard said, "Dustin, I've been going to Mets games for 40 years and have never caught a foul ball". As Godfather to our daughter, Maggie, Richard was at her Baptism and First Communion. We also remember him as a good investor who liked to talk about his forever stocks like PepsiCo and Scotts Miracle-Gro, always with a smile on his face. He was much loved and will be missed.

Once upon a time the Murphy family gathered for Thanksgiving dinner at Tim’s condo in Croton. Richard happily volunteered to carve the prize turkey. As he cut into the turkey ever so carefully he discovered something unlike a wing or a leg or even the breast. As everyone observed his reaction to the unwrapped cooked giblets he exclaimed with eyes widened and a deep low voice , “ It’s Turkey Time!” The family all laughed and laughed. Barb , Ben , Kristi and Benj have never forgotten that special holiday . Thanks for giving Richard ! Love, The Funk’s

Uncle Richard, you will be greatly missed. I have some wonderful memories with the Klenkel family in Glen Cove growing up, especially going on bike rides with you. Thinking of you today, tomorrow, and always. I’m so grateful that I got to see you at Brianna’s wedding. Love, Your Goddaughter. ~Maggie

Rich-CHEEEE! Phil Klenkel - cousin.
Remembering Richie, wow, there are many experiences, visits, and times together that bring back good memories. But, probably the two that stand up the most are one, I don't know if it was his CPA mindset, or he just had a knack for details, but anytime we got together, whether it was in between a time period of one year, two years, whatever, he would pick up the conversation like it was yesterday. Phil,"How is that job at blank blank". Or Phil, "Did you have a good time when you went to blank blank". He always made you feel like you were the primary person/special someone during that time. Helped me to realize we need to BE HERE, right now, focused and paying attention to the person you're with.
The other thing, that brings to memory, and sadly because of Richie's sudden passing, is that life is short. Nobody knows the amount of time we have before we die. Let’s live every day as though it could be our last because one day it will be. That is why the Bible says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12 NKJV). Especially at this time, keep perspective, and make each day count. Make each day significant. Live every day as though it could be your last, because one day it will be!
Remembering Richie has given me insight, hope for the now - loving and caring for those around you, being there; and the future, our life is but a vapor. Thank you Richie.

The best laugh ever! Love you Richie & I’ll always appreciate your sense of humor & smile (especially out of the back window as I tore down the street after the Klenkel station wagon the day after Richie’s spectacular 4th of July fireworks show!)

As undergrads, Rich always found the reasons to laugh. His Ed Norton-esque demeanor lifted us all. God Bless. TomG

Next time I see you we'll be 12 or 14 again and we'll have a catch or maybe go for some blackfish. I still have all your Jerry Grote's and I'm sure my Mickey Mantle's you got in return are in a safe place. Until then I'll be missing you Rich. Say hi to our mom's and dad's.
