Jeffrey Jackson, Sr., was born in Hempstead, New York, on January 20, 1942, to the late Arthur and Jane Jackson. At an early age, Jeffrey moved with his older and younger brothers to Glen Cove, New York, to a wonderful family, and was raised in a God-fearing home with Trustee George Glenn and Carrie Glen. They gave him a strong religious upbringing and instilled in him on how to be a man, to love and serve God first, and how to be a family man. He joined the First Baptist Church of Glen Cove, New York, under the Late Rev. Jerry E. Baker, where he learned about God and how to take care of his fellowman. Jeffrey attended Glen Cove schools where he got his education. He learned how to work hard. Working at the Long Island Paint company in 1963, Jeffrey met the love of his life, Lucy Powell from Tarboro, North Carolina. Jeffrey and Lucy married and, through this union, had three children. Jeffrey later became employed by the City of Glen Cove where he retired as a Sanitation Engineer with high honors. He also worked for the St. Frances Heart Hospital in Port Washington, New York. He became a homeowner at the age of 26, working, in most instances, two jobs along with his wife. Jeffrey always wanted to make a difference in his hometown. After many prayers, he became a member of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department Company #4 in 1971. He was the first African American to become a fifty-year member. With this honor, he held many officer positions. He loved being a fire policeman. Jeffrey became a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, in Brooklyn, New York, under the Late Pastor Curlee Windham. He worked with the usher board, and he became a member of the Eastern Baptist Association (EBA) Usher Board and elevated to an EBA Marshall where he served for many years. For personal reasons, Jeffrey moved his membership from Liberty in good standing to the Antioch Baptist Church, Hempstead, New York, under the late Rev. J.L. Burrell, where he continued worshiping until his death under the Pastorship of Bishop Phillip Elliott.
Last, but not least, Jeffrey was a devoted husband and father. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 62 years, Lucy Jackson, and two children, Jeffrey Jr. and Carrie Ann Jackson of Glen Cove, New York. Jeffrey had one son, James Dewey Jackson, who preceded him in death. He also leaves to mourn six grandchildren, Ian, Miles, Isiah, Serra, Trevor and Isis; two adopted daughters, Soneda Wong Jackson and Shirley Jackson; three sisters, Brenda, Diana and Jane of New York and one brother, Howard of Georgia; four goddaughters, Linda Parks, Melissa Peterson, Sandra Brown and Tiffany Windham; six godsons, Anthony Brown, Lewis Dacus, Jr., Wallace Buie, Larry Cross, Johnathan Cross and Todd Windham; a host of foster children; five sisters-in-laws, Marchelle Dunston-Lawrence of Florida, Irma Cross, Betty Vanhook, Patricia Powell and Virginia Powell of North Carolina; four brothers-in-law, George Powell, MacArthur Vanhook and Lee Cross of North Carolina and William Lawrence of Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department Company #4 and the Fire Police members.
